Songwriters Guild Joins MPAA and RIAA in call to steal our freedoms

Once again a group is calling the US government to carve our personal freedoms and liberties like a Thanksgiving Day turkey.

‘What am I talking about?’ you might ask. Well I’ll be happy to explain. Ars Technica recently published that the Songwriters Guild of America is calling for FBI investigation of all potential piracy crimes because they investigate ‘lesser’ crimes like Bank Robbery. That’s right. Apparently robbing a bank is not nearly as big of a deal as downloading a file off the internet without putting an bit of money into someone’s pocket. I don’t see why I never saw it before.

Where O’ where has the decent broadband gone?

So once again I’m fighting with my internet access trying to keep myself connected. This time is manifests as a connection that will connect for a few minutes and then will drop and lose connectivity. I unplug it, plug it back it and it sometimes comes back and works for a while again, but inevitably over time it will drop again.

Whatever happened to quality? This is something I wonder a lot about these days. Everyone is so hell bent of the elusive dollar that nobody stops to enjoy anything anymore. And companies chew and spit out customers left and right. There is no loyalty as a consumer or as a provider it seems like. And you can see that same front in so many areas. Work, friends, neighbors. All of them.

Man thats disappointing to realize.

When new hardware met bad marketing

So I’ve noticed a trend in recent years. This trend is to create these new and amazing bits of hardware that are, for the most part, just advanced versions of existing equipment. And then price them at absolutely obsurd prices. A prime example of this is the NEC CRV43. Why is that a prime example of what I’m talking about? Because none of the technology used in that monitor is new. The only interesting point is the fact that its a 43″ widescreen monitor. Even moreso the 43″ is solely in the width portion of the monitor. Not the whole monitor.

Religion: Good or Bad?

I tend to be one to think about the big picture from time to time. I like to sit back and try and get a feel for a topic.  I’ll mull it over for a few hours and just generally see what I come up with. More than once I’ve gravitated towards the topic of religion. This make sense seeing as its such a close to the heart topic for pretty much everyone in one form or another. Over the years I’ve thought about what I personally believe in, how I feel about what other people believe in and generally what kinds of impacts it has on our lives as a whole.

After a considerably amount of thinking I’ve come to a conclusion. That conclusion is that Religion is probably the single most destructive concept to be created by mankind to date. Second to that is a legal system that is more concerned about lining their pockets with cash than actually working to protect out lives and liberties. But thats a whole different article to be written.

Its a Vicious Circle

I swear I will never understand how our modern owrld has come to be. Its almost like a group of people sat down and went ‘Hmm. lets think of the most inefficient and stupide way of doing things. We’ll keep thinking these things trying to one up eachother. And when we finally can’t think of anything more rediculous and stupid than the last idea, THAT’S the idea we’ll use.’

What spurred this on? Simple. apparently I got a parking ticket at sometime in the past. But these guys in all their brilliance just leave the ticket sitting on the car. No way of being sure the person actually gets it. Just ‘Swoop’ there we go. Ticket sitting on the car. Cause obviously nothing could ever possibly happen to that ticket. I get a letter threatening suspended license and a warrant for my arrest if I don’t pay off a parking ticket -I’VE NEVER SEEN-. Not to mention, isn’t arrest a little hefty for a $60 expired tag parking ticket? I mean seriously. Like our penal system wasn’t under enough pressure as it is. Now we have to incarcerate anyone affiliated with weed, legal or not, and random people who just had the misfortune of not getting the ticket that some jackass just set on the windshield!

At anyrate, now I have to take time off work to go deal with this so I don’t get any disruptions to my ability to drive or walk around free. Both of which are things I tend to like having access to.

Welcome to America. Land of the free indeed.
